           Fire Fly is a 1975 35 foot Ericson sailing yacht. She has a 2014 Beta 25.  She is sloop rigged, with new main and genoe sails. She also has 2 spinnakers with all the necessary rigging to run with both up. Inside she has a galley with a 3 burner stove and oven, refrigerator, sink and lots of storage.  At the navigation station she has a VHF radio, SSB radio and all the necessary charts.  Nick's bunk is directly behind the navigation station.  The main salon has a large table with U shaped seating and a couch on the other side.  Just forward of the main salon is the head and 2 closet’s.  Then comes Jonathan and Brittanys cabin.  Fire Fly has a large cockpit with enough seating for 6 people.  On the top of the bimini she has 4 large solar panels; under the dodger she has GPS, speed, depth and sound system.  on the wheel she has her auto pilot.  On the stern she has dingy davits with her 10 foot Zodiac with 5.5hp engine and barbeque!

 

 

The Refit

 

            When we bought the boat in 2013 she needed a lot of work. We where ready to get her going and get south before Christmas.... This did not happen. She came with a 2005 diesel engine that had 300 hours on it (pretty much brand new) that was seized. So we hired a mechanic and spent a month pulling the engine apart and fixing everything we could, whatever pieces we could not fix we bought brand new. After spending a lot of money and even more time we got her to start, unfortunate she only ran for 2 minutes before she below a hole in the block and pretty much shredded all the internal parts. That evening Brittany fell and broker her wrist. We took a few months off to heal physically and emotionally.

In April 2014 we returned to continue the work. Here is a list of some of the projects.

  • replaced both main bulkheads

  • varnished all exterior wood and all main salon wood

  • painted hull and bottom

  • fiber glassed the keel from bottom to top and repaired 2 holes in the hull

  • re bedded all deck fittings

  • replaced all 8 chain plates with new ones

  • replaced all the standing and running rigging

  • installed a brand new Beta 25 engine

  • installed new fuel tank and all lines

  • replaced all thru hulls and plumbing

  • rewired all 12volt wiring

  • replaced both battery banks

  • replaced all lights with LEDs

  • added spreader lights

  • added a wind instrument

  • replaced shift cable

  • added a water maker

     

 

Now we are waiting for a few parts to arrive and we will be off!
